By Temitope Adebiyi, Correspondent
Andrawus James was caught trying to sell his niece, admitting he acted out of financial desperation.
James, a resident of Bai village in Adamawa State’s Fufore Local Government Area, tricked his niece, Fatima, into leaving her parents in Yola South LGA by falsely claiming he found her a job in Abuja.
James, a middle-aged man, allegedly abducted 18-year-old Fatima, warning her to keep the trip a secret from her parents..
Local reports on August 16 revealed the case turned against James. That day, Mohamed Buba of New Market, Ganye, contacted the Ganye Divisional Police. Buba reported that James had approached him earlier that month, stating he wanted to get rich and had decided to sell his niece..
They then negotiated the price for the niece and how to deliver her for the sale, after which he called the niece.
Unbeknownst to him, Buba had alerted the security personnel, and he was promptly arrested upon arriving in Ganye.
