A Decade of Excellence: City Business News Calls for Collaboration, Deeper Economic Reporting

The Publisher of City Business News, Moses Ebosele, said the online platform has fulfilled its objective of providing insightful, accurate, and impactful reporting on critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Speaking at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of City Business News Online in Lagos TODAY, Ebosele added that the management of the online platform recognised, at an early stage, the need for a specialised media platform that would go beyond headlines to examine the policies, investments, challenges and opportunities shaping the nation’s economic future.

The event, themed “Logistics as the Engine Room of the Nigerian Economy,” was well attended by stakeholders in the transport, logistics, business, maritime, and energy, banking sector.

According to the Publisher, ” over the years, we have consistently focused on the maritime industry, transportation and automotive sectors, capital market, energy, banking, logistics, telecommunications, agriculture, Politics and other key sectors that drive economic growth and prosperity.

Through our publications, events, and stakeholder engagements, Ebosele said, “we have sought to bridge information gaps, stimulate policy discussions and contribute meaningfully to national development.

“As we celebrate this milestone, the choice of the theme of the event, he said, “reflects the growing recognition that logistics is no longer merely a supporting function but a strategic driver of economic growth and competitiveness.

Every economy, he added, “depends on the efficient movement of goods, services, and people. From our seaports to inland transport corridors, from warehouses to distribution centres and from manufacturing plants to retail outlets, logistics form the backbone of commercial activity.”

In Nigeria, Ebosele said, “logistics play an even more critical role.  As Africa’s largest economy and one of the continent’s most populous nations, our ability to move goods efficiently determines the success of our industries, the competitiveness of our exports and the affordability of products for consumers.”

He stated further that “the maritime sector remains central to this equation. More than 80 per cent of global trade moves by sea and Nigeria’s ports serve as vital gateways for international commerce.

“However, the full potential of our logistics ecosystem can only be realized through sustained investments in infrastructure, technology, multimodal transportation networks and policy reforms.

“We must continue to improve port efficiency, expand rail connectivity, modernize road infrastructure, promote inland waterways transportation and embrace digital solutions that reduce delays and enhance transparency.”

The emergence of e-commerce, growing regional trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and increasing industrialisation across Africa, the  Publisher of the City Business News Online platform said,  have created new opportunities for Nigeria to position itself as a leading logistics hub on the continent.

Achieving this objective, he said, “requires collaboration among government agencies, private-sector operators, financial institutions, development partners, and the media.

In his address, Ebosele “appealed to the various tiers of government in Nigeria and their agencies to formulate and implement policies that support and promote logistics and transport entrepreneurs as part of efforts to sustain economic growth and development across the country.

“Information remains one of the most valuable tools for development. Through objective reporting, industry analysis, and stakeholder engagement, we will continue to highlight opportunities, identify challenges, and advocate policies that support economic growth and prosperity,” Ebosele said.
