TODAY: Actor Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo) to be Buried in Ilaro, Ogun State

TODAY, the veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo will be buried at Pavilion, Ilaro, Ogun State.

His family and daughter, Kira Taiwo, confirmed his passing at the age of 66.

The news comes days after Kira and her sister, Lima Taiwo, made public appeals on Monday, August 17, 2026, for medical advice for their father, who was battling stage-four cancer.

Kira said doctors had stopped chemotherapy because of his condition, and the family was seeking alternative treatments, including specialised procedures and traditional remedies.

She clarified that the family was not asking for financial donations, but for information on possible treatment options.

Sixty-six-year-old Ogogo appeared in more than 300 Yoruba films and was celebrated for his roles in Ogogo, Owo Blow, and King of the Boys.

Tributes have begun pouring in for the screen legend.

His family has also announced his passing on Sunday

“With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, the family of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan Ogogo announces his passing today, 23rd August, 2026,” the statement said.

The family prayed for the forgiveness of his shortcomings and for Allah to grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The actor’s death came days after his family disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical assistance.

The family said the deceased would be buried according to Islamic rites Today, Monday.

It stated that the burial would take place at the Pavilion, Ilaro, Ogun State.

Taiwo Hassan was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker and director.

His death has sparked reactions from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
