For his monumental contributions to the heartbeat of public service and national prosperity, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi has been crowned with the prestigious Times Heroes Award.

Against the backdrop of the Daily Times centenary celebration, the prestigious honor was bestowed on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja. The evening brought together a distinguished tapestry of leaders from governance, commerce, and royalty, each gathering to honor the monumental figures and institutions driving Nigeria’s progress.

In his acceptance remarks, Adeniyi spoke of the accolade not just as a reward, but as an inspiration to fuel deeper commitment. Sharing the spotlight, he attributed the milestone to the tireless teamwork within the Nigeria Customs Service and commended the public whose compliance continues to inspire higher standards.

“It’s very good when you do something, and you are recognised; this should be an inspiration to us to do much better,” Adeniyi said. He dedicated the award to the officers and men of the NCS for their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding and serving the nation.

The CGC highlighted that under his leadership, the Service remains focused on boosting revenue generation, enhancing trade facilitation and accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement. He added that greater public compliance would further empower the NCS to deliver on its mandate efficiently.
